An electric dab rig — also called an e-rig — is a battery-powered device that heats cannabis concentrate to its vaporisation point electrically, with no blowtorch. You load concentrate onto a heated element or into a chamber, the device reaches temperature on its own, and you inhale vapour, usually through water. It replaces the traditional torch-and-nail dab setup with a button and a battery.
How an electric dab rig works
- Charge and set the temperature. Most e-rigs offer preset heat levels.
- Load the concentrate into the heated chamber or onto the coil when it reaches temperature.
- Inhale — the concentrate vaporises and the vapour draws through the mouthpiece, often via a water chamber for cooling.
- Recharge over USB — no torch, no butane.
The big advantages over a torch rig are consistency and safety: a precise, repeatable temperature instead of guessing with an open flame, and no need to wield a blowtorch.
Important: an e-rig vaporises — it doesn't combust
This is where we're careful with language. An electric dab rig vaporises concentrate; it does not combust dry herb.
